
Horizon Honors once again cleaned up in the annual "Best of Ahwatukee" awards, taking the following categories:
- Best Charter School
"Our readers' top choice among charter schools, Horizon Honors is really two schools in one: Horizon Elementary School (grade k-6) and Horizon High School (grades 7-12). Both share the same philosophy of helping its more than 1,550 students achieve academic and social excellence while solving real-life problems in a cooperative manner. Horizon Honors, which first opened its schools in 1996, is tuition free and has been recognized for its excellence with multiple awards."
- Best Elementary/Middle School Teacher - Julie Moses
"Teacher Julie Moses, originally from Iowa, has been an educator at Horizon Honors Elementary School for 16 years. She has worked with third- and fourth- grade children throughout her entire career. Prior to her time at Horizon Honors she taught in South Korea for one year. Moses strives to create a calm presence in the classroom so students feel safe to be themselves. 'As a teacher, I love to challenge my students academically as well as helping to guide my students toward being their best selves,' she said. 'Seeing students interact with one another using the tools they are being taught in real-life situations is very rewarding.'"
