Horizon Honors Schools Earn “A” Ratings from AZ Dept. of Education!

The Arizona Department of Education has released the 2024-2025 school letter grades, and both Horizon Honors Elementary School and Horizon Honors Secondary School earned an A rating!

Arizona’s school letter grade system looks at multiple measures of school performance, including:

Student growth from year to year
Proficiency on statewide assessments
English language proficiency and growth
Indicators of readiness for the next grade level
High School graduation rates

Only about one in five school districts across Arizona received an A rating. We are proud to be among the schools recognized for excellence and growth.

Big news! Horizon Honors Elementary School has updated its Kindergarten enrollment requirements — students who turn 5 years old on or before September 30, 2025 are now eligible to apply! (Previously August 31.)

Caught In The Classroom

Kindergarten students celebrated the 100th Day of School! 🥳👏🎊

Teachers had training with some Grades 5-6 leaders on lessons Ms. K. has been doing in classrooms this quarter. These lessons focused on meaningful conversations, deep listening, problem solving, and how to grow a safe community.

Grades 5-6 Spanish students recently traveled to Macayo's Mexican Restaurants where they learned to make tamales and enjoyed lunch!

Horizon Harmonies and Eagle Echoes Choirs performed at the Arizona State Capitol!

Teacher Mrs. Kemp performs a magic trick for her writing class in Grades 1-2 Blue! Students are working on personal narratives, writing about what they see, and utlizing time words.

Kindness Certified

As a result of the school's active participation in The Great Kindness Challenge, Horizon Honors Elementary School is recognized as a 2025 Kindness Certified School!

Over 21 million students from 43,255 schools across 135 countries participated in this global movement of positivity! We hope the kindness momentum continues beyond our campus, creating ripples of goodness in our communities.

Horizon Honors once again cleaned up in the annual "Best of Ahwatukee" awards, taking the following categories:

Best Charter School
"Our readers' top choice among charter schools, Horizon Honors is really two schools in one: Horizon Elementary School (grade k-6) and Horizon High School (grades 7-12). Both share the same philosophy of helping its more than 1,550 students achieve academic and social excellence while solving real-life problems in a cooperative manner. Horizon Honors, which first opened its schools in 1996, is tuition free and has been recognized for its excellence with multiple awards."
Best Elementary/Middle School Teacher - Julie Moses

"Teacher Julie Moses, originally from Iowa, has been an educator at Horizon Honors Elementary School for 16 years. She has worked with third- and fourth- grade children throughout her entire career. Prior to her time at Horizon Honors she taught in South Korea for one year. Moses strives to create a calm presence in the classroom so students feel safe to be themselves. 'As a teacher, I love to challenge my students academically as well as helping to guide my students toward being their best selves,' she said. 'Seeing students interact with one another using the tools they are being taught in real-life situations is very rewarding.'"
